Green juice deconstructed

Here’s a unique juice recipe which has come from a reader in Tanzania. She is super health conscious and makes sure whatever she consumes has loads of nutrients in it.

This is her morning juice mix. She blends coconut water with a pear 🍐, a green apple 🍏 and a handful of mint leaves. On top of that she adds a teaspoon each of chia seeds and basil seeds.

Pears🍐 help in boosting immune system, improves digestion and intestinal health. Most of the fiber in pears is a non-soluble polysaccharide (NSP), which means that it acts as a bulking agent in the intestines. This fiber accumulates the food so it is easier for the food to pass through the intestines. The high levels of ascorbic acid present in pear speeds up the wound healing process. Also it is one of the lowest-calorie fruits, so you can have as much you want without any guilt.

Now let’s talk about green apples 🍏. Green apples may contain slightly more fibre and less carbohydrates & sugar than red apples 🍎 , but red apples contain more antioxidants. The health benefit differences between red apples and green apples are actually negligible, so you can use any, but green apples 🍏 taste better in this juice recipe.

Mint leaves are refreshing and Chia seeds are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, rich in antioxidants, while providing fiber, iron, and calcium.

Basil seeds act as one of the best body coolants. They are also said to be effective against type 2 diabetes as it helps in regulation of blood sugar level. Basil seeds also help with constipation; it acts as a natural body detoxifier by promoting smoother bowel movements and help in curing bladder infection. They are also rich in vitamins (other than iron and protein), especially vitamin K keeping the skin and hair healthy.

And we all know how amazing coconut  water is, so I won’t even try listing its benefits.

PS: Do not strain the juice. It will take all the fibre away. Blend it well and enjoy the pulpy taste of it.
